Why getting insurance quotes helps, even if you don't switch providers

Posted on Aug. 14, 2017

It's easy to get complacent with an insurance policy. Unless something drastic takes place and shakes up your premiums to the point where paying them would constitute highway robbery, it may never actually occur to you to change them.

After all, picking insurance isn't exactly like picking clothes. People go shopping for pleasure just as much as they do it out of necessity. Very  few people could say the same about insurance.

But what if we told you that hunting for insurance quotes could end up financing several shopping trips—even if you don't switch providers. Well, it could. And even if it doesn't, you could still walk away from the process feeling grateful you took the time to look.

Here's why.

It could reinforce belief in your current provider

When you shop around for a new insurance plan, there's no guarantee that it will be better than the one you already have.

On the surface, that may seem like a waste of time; but in reality, it's far from true. Finding out that you already have an optimal insurance plan is extremely valuable, and spending a few hours to confirm it is no waste—the reason being that most of the time, it'll be the opposite.

According to noted insurance expert Lee Romanov, "Many people pay between $500 and $1,500 more than they have to for car insurance each year." Since there is such a high likelihood of a better deal being available, it's better to go with the odds and burn some time than risk missing out on hundreds of dollars of savings.

No matter what, you'll feel better for having checked around.
